Land and Restoration
Hope Valley Conservancy encompasses 160 acres near New Glarus, Wisconsin. This unique topography harbors five distinct ecosystems from different types of dry-mesic forest to remnant prairie. The Conservancy is home to hundreds of different species of plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds.
Current projects at Hope Valley Conservancy include:
- Sunset Hill, oak savanna and remnant prairie restoration
- Restoration of the creek and wetlands, part of the Pleasant Valley Watershed
- The Secret Garden, one of only two areas designated as formal gardens. Stage 1 is currently underway, and includes invasive species abatement and garden gate design.
- Mossy Rock Trail on the southwest corner of the property, which involves invasive plant management
- Development of an as-of-yet unnamed trail in the northeast corner of the conservancy
- Orchard Park, a vintage apple orchard and remnant prairie, newly seeded with native wildflowers
These projects are generously supported by work and donations from individuals, and grants from federal and state agencies.
